Jarrah's Uplink
Hello! My computer is back in operation,
for which I would like to thank Phil for his numerous hours
of telephonic assistance. And of course, a big thanks to Luis
for his work on updating the site in my absence.
In response to John's comments on my subtlety
last week, I have only this
to say.
And today's comic link is to Hellbound |
John's Uplink
This week, TransStellar makes the exciting
move into the risque territory of innuendo ... we will cross
lines that should not be crossed and make jokes that should
not be made! Ever wronger, ever downwards! I'd also like to
pay special credit to Jarrah's work on the little planet-maps
display thing, which looks extra cool.
Also, since this is apparently my space to rant about whatever
the hell I want to, I'm going to gush about the awesomeness
of the Warcraft series, pre-WoW. It was fantastic how a generic
Fantasy RTS slowly grew into a unique world, with stories
to rival Tolkien or Feist. The death of Lothar. The collapse
of the Dark Portal. The corruption of Arthas and the redemption
of the Horde under Thrall. All great stories, set against
the picturesque backdrop of Azeroth. And this is before we
even get to the actual games - polished to perfection, with
little hints of genius and a rare sense of humour. The multiplayer
was intense. The editors turned a single game into a multitude.
And yet I fear we will not see their like again as long as
the collosus that is World of Warcraft continues to feed on
the lives and wallets of its hapless denizens. We give thanks
for what we once had and mourn for what it could have been.
Here lies Warcraft, 1995-2004. |
